One Year Later

Hamas Riding High One Year After Election - Khaled Abu Toameh

One year after their victory in the PA parliamentary election, Hamas leaders on Thursday had every reason to be satisfied.

Political and financial sanctions imposed by the international community have failed to bring down the Hamas-led government. Efforts by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party to undermine the government of Ismail Haniyeh have also been unsuccessful. Predictions that Hamas' popularity would drop have proven to be wrong.

The Palestinians are worse off than they were a year ago. Maybe it will take more time. What are the other options? The US should invade? After all, it worked so well for us in Iraq....

Larry posed a good: what are the other options?

The US and those in power in Israel appear to be supporting Abbas' Fatah. The transfer of millions to finance Fatah's miliary is the case in point.

Others [myself included] believe that Abbas is only a secular [Arab nationalist] version of Hamas...both share a vision of an Israeless map.

I'd vote for not pumping money into Fatah's war chest. If Hamas should be the victor, so be it.

I'd rather battle terrorist who say they terrorists, than terrorists who pretend they are not!
