Shame on Amnesty International & Reflections on media coverage

Amnesty International Redefines "War Crimes" - Alan Dershowitz

[I]f attacking the civilian infrastructure is a war crime, then modern warfare is entirely impermissible, and terrorists have a free hand in attacking democracies and hiding from retaliation among civilians. Terrorists become de facto immune from any consequences for their atrocities.

A Mike, a Camera, But Not One Clue - Ike Seamans

If this is the future of network Middle East coverage, I, as a retired NBC correspondent and Israel bureau chief, suggest this warning be affixed when appropriate: "Correspondent Tab DeLovely just arrived at the Lebanese border. Doesn't know diddly, but spins a tantalizing tale. This may be disturbing to viewers seeking accurate news."

Of course the point Mr. Dershowitz is making is true, on the face of it, but of course there is more to it. It may be necessary to confront the terrorists on civilian territory, and just like when the terrorists attack, civilians will die. Because this is necessary does not make this a good thing. Hopefully, like in Afghanistan, when civilians that knowingly harbor the terrorists are confronted with the repercussions, they will no longer willingly harbor them. For those that do so unwillingly, or unwittingly, as unfair as it may be, the war on terrorism is still a war, and unfortunately war is hell.
